Laine Adair, the man in the cross hairs of Rep. George Miller’s request for a criminal investigation into last August’s Crandall Canyon mine disaster, has worked in Utah’s coal mining industry for 34 years.

A resident of Spring Glen, north of Price, Adair is the general manager of Murray Energy Corp.’s operations in Utah, which includes two mines currently in operation (West Ridge and Tower), two that are closed (Crandall Canyon and South Crandall Canyon) and a fifth in the planning stage (Lila Canyon).

Forbes.com | Albidon says commercially-viable mining possible at Chirundu Uranium jv

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Albidon Ltd. said commercially viable mining was possible at the Chirundu Uranium joint venture in Zambia as it raised the inferred resource estimate for the project.

The company said a pre-feasibility study pegged total uranium U308 at 14.0 million tonnes.

Albidon now holds a 30 percent stake in the Chirundu jv, with African Energy Resources holding the remaining 70 percent.

Nippon Mining to Spend 510 Billion Yen on Copper (Update1)

May 8 (Bloomberg) — Nippon Mining Holdings Inc., the country’s biggest copper producer, will invest 510 billion yen ($4.9 billion) over three years to expand metals output and improve operations at its refineries in Japan.

Nippon Mining, also an oil refiner, targets net income of 88 billion yen for the year ending March 2011 and 130 billion yen for the fiscal 2015, it said in a statement today. It predicted profit for this year of 72 billion yen on April 30.
